Transfer Deadline Day Frenzy: Aston Villa Splash £76m On Harwood-Bellis, Mbaye

Aston Villa have made two of the biggest moves of Premier League transfer deadline day, spending a combined £76m on Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye.

With the Premier League and English Football League transfer window set to close at 23:00 BST on Tuesday, clubs are racing to complete their final deals before the deadline.

Villa completed the signing of Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for £29m, strengthening their defensive options, before reportedly agreeing a significantly larger £47m deal for Mbaye from PSG.

Hull City also added to their squad, bringing in Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin for an undisclosed fee.

In the Championship and other EFL divisions, Wrexham completed the signing of Joe Worrall from Burnley for an undisclosed fee, while several clubs secured players on loan.

Stevenage brought in West Ham youngster Kaelan Casey on loan, while Exeter City signed Jack Taylor on loan from Stevenage. Manchester City midfielder Jaden Heskey also moved to Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

Other confirmed EFL deals saw Sam Chambers join Northampton from Leeds on loan, Kylian Kouassi move from Blackpool to Colchester for an undisclosed fee, and Joe Bursik switch from Portsmouth to AFC Wimbledon on loan.

Portsmouth also sent Hayden Matthews to Bradford City on loan, while Nottingham Forest’s Josh Powell joined Northampton on a temporary deal. Brighton youngster Caylan Vickers moved to Burton for an undisclosed fee.

Arsenal, Chelsea complete overseas deals

Several Premier League clubs have also been active in international transfers.

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira completed a £8.6m move to Hamburg, while Chelsea forward Marc Guiu joined RB Leipzig for £14.6m.

Tottenham midfielder Kota Takai moved to Sint-Truidense VV on loan, while Blackburn Rovers sent Sidnei Tavares to Wisla Plock on a temporary deal.

Sunderland’s Luis Semedo also left the club to join French side Clermont for an undisclosed fee.

Meanwhile, Scottish Premiership clubs have until 17:00 BST on Thursday to complete their deadline-day business, with Motherwell signing Dylan Levitt from Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.

Women’s Super League clubs have until 23:00 BST on Thursday to finalise their transfers.

With hours remaining before the Premier League deadline, further deals and late moves are expected as clubs attempt to strengthen their squads before the window slams shut.
