The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been plunged into a fresh contractual controversy, as Katsina United officially declared their influential forward, Uche Collins, Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL).
The club’s Chairman, Surajo Umar Baba, released a firm statement confirming that the player has not been seen since the team’s fixture against Rangers International on February 22, 2026. The match, which took place at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, marks the last time the club had any official contact with the player.
According to the statement, Collins’ disappearance is not a minor administrative issue but a serious breach of contract. The Chairman emphasized that the player remains legally bound to Katsina United, with his current contract valid until the conclusion of the 2026/2027 season.
“Uche Collins is a registered player of Katsina United. He has not been granted permission to be absent, and his failure to report for duties constitutes a violation of his professional obligations,” the statement read.
In a clear warning to potential suitors, Katsina United has vowed to pursue legal action against any club found to be negotiating with or attempting to recruit the player without following the proper channels of transfer or obtaining a clear international transfer certificate (ITC) if required.
The disappearance of Collins is a significant blow to the “Chanji Boys.” Over the past two seasons, the forward has established himself as one of the most reliable and exciting talents in the league. His contributions were particularly vital during the 2024/25 campaign, where his consistent performances and goal-scoring prowess earned him the club’s prestigious Player of the Season award.
The development has sparked widespread speculation within Nigerian football circles, with many suggesting that the player might be seeking a move to a bigger club either within Nigeria or overseas. However, until an official transfer is sanctioned, Katsina United insists that Collins remains their property and demand his immediate return.
