Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, “Operation Fansan Yamma”, have invaded a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza local government area of Sokoto State.
The operation, conducted yesterday, led to the neutralisation of several terrorists and recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.
In a statement issued by the media information officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the forest.
Danja said the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralised some of them, and destroyed their camps and life-support structures during the exploitation of the area.
He said the troops have sustained operational presence in the area, conducting clearance and domination operations to deny the terrorists freedom of action and enhance security of the surrounding communities.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their courage and resilience and urged members of the public to support ongoing operations with timely and credible information on suspicious movements.
