Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued a 13-year-old girl, Halira Ibrahim, from captivity in Sububu Forest, Zamfara State, as part of ongoing military operations to clear terrorist hideouts in the North-West part of the country.

In a statement on Saturday signed by Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, he said the troops under Sector 2 of the 8 Division advanced into identified terrorist enclaves in Indulumu and Ruduno villages, engaging the insurgents in fierce gun battles.

Adewusi also disclosed that the troops successfully rescued the 13-year-old kidnap victim during the operations.

“The rescue of Halira Ibrahim underscores the unwavering commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting innocent citizens and restoring peace across the North West region,” the statement read.

“During the encounters, several terrorists were neutralised while the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, one magazine loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition, and a pair of woodland camouflage uniforms,” Adewusi stated. “Two motorcycles used by the terrorists for movement and attacks were also destroyed on the spot.”

He noted that the troops maintained operational momentum by conducting further clearance operations across the forest, where they uncovered and destroyed several terrorist camps and life-support structures.

“This extensive exploitation of the forest has significantly degraded the terrorists’ logistical capabilities,” he added.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which translates to “North Wind”, has been conducting coordinated counterterrorism operations aimed at denying terrorists safe haven and ensuring lasting peace in communities affected by insecurity in the region.
