A heavy duty truck on Wednesday crushed a couple and their infant baby boy to death in the Ijebu area of Ogun State.

Our correspondent gathered that the sad incident, which occurred some minutes after 9p.m along the Ibadan road of Ijebu Ode metropolis, had the nursing woman tying the infant baby at her back, while they were returning to their house on the husband’s motorcycle.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the truck, which was on a high speed when it pulled down the nursing mother and her baby from the moving motorcycle, overran them and continually dragged the husband’s corpse and the motorcycle’s that got hooked underneath until the road median stopped it.

It however, took the intervention of some street urchins, fellow motorcyclists that witnessed the scene as well as other sympathizers in the area to arrest the fleeing truck driver after chasing him till Oru-Ago Iwoye Road interjection on the Ibadan – Ijebu Ode highway.

The public relations officer of the state owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident said the driver of the truck was “badly manhandled and injured” before he was finally handed over to the police at the Traffic Section of the Igbeba Divisional Headquarters in Ijebu Ode.

Akinbiyi however, stated further that corpses of the couple and their child have been deposited at the government’s General Hospital in Ijebu Ode.
