Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during an intelligence-led operation in Saki, Oyo State.
The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, who briefed journalists on the state’s security, explained that the interception was carried out by operatives during a stop-and-search exercise following credible intelligence.
“The truck and the suspected explosive materials were immediately secured and are currently in police custody.
“Upon being briefed on the development, the commissioner of police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
“Consequently, specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to safely secure the items for forensic examination”, he said.
Police sources disclosed that a detailed forensic analysis has commenced to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended use.
The truck driver has been taken into custody and is cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the interception.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support and strategic leadership, which he said has strengthened intelligence-driven and proactive policing nationwide.
The Command reassured members of the public that there is no cause for panic, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue, with assurances that the public will be kept informed of further developments.
