United States President Donald Trump has claimed that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will step down from office, criticising his handling of immigration and energy policies.

Trump made the remark in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday amid speculation over the UK leader’s political future.

“Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects- Immigration and Energy (Open North Sea Oil!). I wish him well!” Trump wrote.

Reports in the UK media have suggested that Starmer could announce a decision on his political future as early as Monday, following Andy Burnham’s return to Westminster after a victory in the Makerfield by-election.

Starmer led the Labour Party to a landslide victory in the 2024 general election, ending more than a decade of Conservative Party rule. However, his approval ratings have since declined, while Labour has faced setbacks in several subsequent elections.

If Starmer were to step down, he would become the seventh British prime minister in just over a decade, reflecting the political instability and frequent leadership changes that have characterised UK politics in recent years amid growing public dissatisfaction with government performance.
