A group, Volunteers for Democracy and Good Governance has described the bombing of innocent civilians by the Nigerian Army at Tudun Biri of Igabi local government area of Kaduna State as a tragedy that has raised the number of people killed in the last nine years to 400.

The volunteer group committed to the rule of law, democracy and good governance, saying that the number of attacks has now risen to 19 across the North where innocent people have lost their lives.

In a statement signed by the group’s public relations officer, Shehu Isah, also quoted reports by Amnesty International (AI) and the Human Rights Watch (HRW) that there are always losses of more women and children when such mishaps occur.

“The incident is a national calamity that will take a long time to forget. It also brings to the fore the need for a total overhaul of operations of the Nigerian Armed Forces, while strongly calling for a review of similar occurrences from 2014 to date.

“Reports by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch indicated that there are always more losses of women and children when such mishaps occur.

While extending its condolences to the people of the state, the Emir of Zazzau and the victims, the group also recommended a full-scale investigation into the incident as well as compensation of victims accordingly that should include the dead and the injured.
The group also called for an overhaul of the security architecture to be in line with international best practices.
