The principal secretary to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Amb Hassan Tukur, has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Oyo State, alongside three others.
The award was conferred on Tukur who currently serves as the patron of the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative during the 15th convocation ceremony held by the university.
A statement by Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative signed by Abdulkadir Lawal issued yesterday in Abuja said Tukur expressed high regard for the award which he described as unique.
He recalled that he once aspired to become a lecturer, but eventually ventured into diplomacy.
He said his change was largely influenced by the elimination of his mentor and lecturer, Dr Bala Muhammed on July 10, 1981 in Kano. He said the traumatising event altered his view on academic-centered careers.
“Therefore, receiving an award in the academic world is a unique feat for him,” he said.
The Initiative described the honour as a laudable milestone.
“This award speaks volumes as it highlights Amb. Hassan Tukur’s hard work and dedication toward nation building which can never go unnoticed.
“We are indeed grateful to have him as our patron and we deeply admire his perseverance and diligence. It is our earnest prayer that he continuously thrives, marking great achievements,” the statement added.
