United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Africa’s economic transformation and strengthening connections across the continent as it celebrated Africa Day 2026 across its operations in 20 African countries.

The bank said the group-wide celebration brought together employees across its African markets to promote cultural diversity and reflect on the institution’s role in advancing economic integration and development on the continent.

Speaking during the event, UBA group managing director and chief executive officer, Oliver Alawuba, described the bank as a key link connecting African markets, cultures, people and opportunities.

According to him, UBA’s presence in 20 African countries positions it as more than a financial institution, noting that the bank plays a critical role in facilitating trade, investment and economic growth across the continent.

“As a Group with presence in 20 African countries, UBA is more than a bank. We are a bridge across markets, cultures, people and opportunities,” Alawuba said.

He noted that Africa is witnessing significant changes driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, digital finance and increasing participation of women and young people in economic activities.
