The executive secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has implored school leaders to apply the highest levels of emotional intelligence in discharging their leadership responsibilities.
Bobboyi stated this while declaring open a three-day leadership training workshop for Vice Principals of UBE Model Smart Schools organised by the UBEC Digital Resource Center, Abuja.
The executive secretary who spoke through the national coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Center (DRC), Prof. Bashir Galadanci, also charged the school managers to mentor and coach young school leaders in the manner that would prepare them properly for future administrative roles.
Also speaking in the same vein, the Head of Capacity Building at the DRC, Dr. Hafsat L. Kontagora, equally emphasized the need to train school administrators in leadership competencies as part of the Smart School system.
Kontagora who delivered a welcome address at the occasion further noted that it was essential to enhance the capacity of vice principals to mentor and coach smart school teachers to perform their duties effectively.
The training was designed to enable the vice principals to develop interpersonal skills and apply emotional intelligence in school leadership and to enhance leadership competencies as well as mentoring, and coaching abilities.
