The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commenced the training of 100 Tsangaya teachers from the six states in the North East zone on Integrated Qur’an and Tsangaya Education.
The training will last for five days, according to UBEC, adding that it was designed to accelerate the implementation of the IQTE programme for effective delivery of lessons to Almajiri pupils across the country.
Addressing the participants, the executive secretary Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, said within the short period of introducing the paradigm shift, 638 had their infrastructure improved and made over 760,000 pupils to be learning under a conducive environment.
Bobboyi who was represented by North East zonal coordinator Abdullahi Jarma commended the commitment of some state governments to their responsibilities by deploying basic education teachers into the tsangaya centers.
He said the commission organised the capacity building for both the basic education teachers as well as social mobilization officers with the purpose of equipping the newly engaged teachers on the pedagogy of teaching Arabic and Qur’an in IQTE schools.
Bobboyi said the programme would broaden the knowledge of the participants as they will learn how to adopt special strategies in impacting knowledge to Almajiri pupils with their special peculiarities.
The national technical coordinator of IQTE Programme Prof Bashir Galadanci represented by Dr Mujtaba Ibrahim Yakubu said the training was aimed at improving the standard of Tsangaya schools across the country.
He added that integrating English language, mathematics and basic science subjects into Qur’anic schools as well as improving the hygiene of Almajiri pupils across the country had impacted positively on their lives and is a step toward eradicating street begging by Almajiri pupils.
In his remarks, the executive chairman of Bauchi State Universal Basic Education board Dr. Surumbai Dahiru Bauchi represented by Yusuf Zubairu appreciate UBEC for organising the training and assured the board readiness to continue collaborating with UBEC in implementing government policies and programs in Bauchi state.
Other demands include the payment of the outstanding full salaries of July to December 2022; payment of the outstanding promotion arrears of the non-academic staff; payment of the Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA) for non-teaching staff on a ratio of 50:50 with the academic staff and the review of the usurpation of headship that are meant for the non-academic staff by the academic staff of university farm manager, admission officer, director CBT, director of ICT and director of sports.
