The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has constituted ward and local government election committees as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the committees would commence mobilisation and coordination across the local government with the objective of securing victory in all six elective contests being targeted by the APC.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Ughelli North APC Leadership Council hosted by its Chairman and founding leader of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, OON, at his residence in Evwreni, Ughelli North.

The meeting also witnessed the formal reception of executives and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from various wards in Ughelli North who recently defected to the APC.

Addressing party leaders and stakeholders, Emerhor said the meeting was convened principally to consider and approve the report of the Election Planning Committee previously constituted by the Leadership Council.

“The main agenda of this meeting is to receive the report of the Election Planning Committee. You will remember that at our last meeting, we set up the Election Planning Committee and gave them two weeks to complete their assignment,” Emerhor said.

He said the Executive Committee had reviewed the report and some of its recommendations before presenting them to the enlarged Leadership Council for consideration and approval.

Emerhor said the exercise was aimed at giving the party’s election structures across Ughelli North their final shape and enabling the committees to begin work immediately.

The six elective contests being targeted by the APC are the presidency, governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and the two Delta State House of Assembly constituencies in Ughelli North.

Emerhor commended party members for their loyalty and commitment, while urging the leadership and grassroots structures to work together as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

The APC leader also announced the death of one of the party’s chairmen in Orogun Ward 2 and led members in observing a minute’s silence in his honour.

He expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and directed the member representing Ughelli North Constituency I in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade, who is from the area, to convey the party’s condolences and support to the family.

The meeting was attended by APC leaders, elected representatives, political appointees and grassroots stakeholders from across Ughelli North.

Those who addressed the gathering included the member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive; former APC National Women Leader and Executive Director at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Hon. Stella Okotete; Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon. Jaro Egbo; and Ughelli North APC Chairman, Hon. Lucky Ofomukoro.

Others included members representing Ughelli North Constituencies I and II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade and Hon. Spencer, as well as Prof. SWE Ibodje, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, Chief Fred Majemite, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, Hon. Samuel Mariere and Dr Isaac Akpoveta.

The speakers called for unity, grassroots mobilisation and effective coordination of the party’s structures, expressing confidence that the APC’s growing presence in Ughelli North would translate into electoral gains.

The formal reception of the NDC defectors was also described as part of efforts to consolidate the APC’s political structure in the local government. Party leaders urged the new members to integrate into existing structures and contribute to the party’s mobilisation efforts.

With the constitution of the ward and local government election committees, the Leadership Council said it would now focus on grassroots mobilisation and implementation of its election strategy across Ughelli North.
