The Russian Government has warned British nationals and other foreign nationals against traveling to the special military zones in the ongoing war with Ukraine, saying their security cannot be guaranteed.

Russia, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria urged British and other foreign nationals to refrain from travelling to the Special Military Operation zone in any capacity.

“Their presence within the area of active combat operations or its vicinity poses immediate and grave danger for their life and health.

“Non-Ukrainian nationals who take up arms as part of Ukraine-linked military units are considered mercenaries by the Russian Armed Forces.

“They are considered legitimate targets by the Russian Armed Forces. In the event of capture they face criminal prosecution by the relevant Russian authorities,” the Russian authorities said.

Britain and its allies, especially the United States have been offering military and diplomatic support as well as funding to Ukraine since the military faceoff by Russian and this has drawn the ire of the Vladimir Putin administration in Moscow.
