There seems to be an uneasy Calm In Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital as President Bola Tinubu imposed a six-month state-of-emergency rule on the state.
LEADERSHIP observed that within the Old Port Harcourt Township, people were seen moving around as usual as if they did not hear about the declaration.
However, our Correspondent sighted several military patrol vehicles with fully armed personnel moving into the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Also, several private vehicles, especially those of civil servants were seen hurriedly leaving the State Secretariat, which is also close to the Government House.
President Tinubu had on Tuesday night appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the State.
This followed the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara alongside his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and the State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
The President’s declaration was hinged on a prolonged political crisis in the State, which he said, had impeded governance and also undermined democratic institutions including acts of economic sabotage by vandals.
