World Heritage Sites are cultural or natural sites considered to be of ‘Outstanding Universal Value’, which have been inscribed on the World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP at the weekend, against the backdrop of the recent award received by the spring as the best holiday resort in Nigeria, at the Hotel managers conference held in Owerri, the general manager, Glocient Hospitality Limited, owners of Ikogosi warm springs resorts, Lanre Balogun, stated that the resort is the only place with warm and cold spring all over the world.

“Ikogosi Warm spring should be a world heritage site and we are in the works of trying to get it registered under the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are trying to get that registered under the UN.

‘’It is the only place in the world that has a cold and warm spring because usually there are cold and warm springs standing individually but in this case, we have the combination of both cold and hot and that makes it highly unique and the world needs to know about it,” he said.

Balogun, however, called on governments at all levels to make power regular to assist in the creation of jobs for unemployed youths in the country in the hospitality sector, saying the hospitality sector in Nigeria was less than 30 percent tapped.

“Government has no business doing business. We took the concession for certain years. To create jobs and boost the hospitality space in Nigeria. Let’s come back and invest massively in the hospitality space in Nigeria. Get our youths off the streets, to stop the ‘Japa’ syndrome and give them more jobs. Let us not take money out of Nigeria let us bring them here and invest the money in Nigeria that is what we are doing at Ikogosi.’’
