UNIBEN ASUU Resumes Work After Management Promises Outstanding EAA Payment

The lecturers had embarked on the industrial action over the payment of half of their August 2026 salary and non-payment of other allowances.

The decision to suspend the strike was taken at a congress meeting yesterday after the university management promised to pay the Council component of the EAA for June, July and August 2026 not later than Friday, September 18.

In a resolution signed by the branch chairman, Dr Enaruna Edosa, and secretary, Lucky O. Aimiyekagbon, the union said the university administration had provided details of the payment made to members on August 10, 2026.

The resolution stated that the administration informed the congress that all entitlements due to members had been paid, except the Council component of the EAA for June, July and August 2026.

“Consequent upon the fact that the University Administration has promised to pay the Council component of EAA for the months of June, July and August, 2026, Congress resolved to suspend the action of withdrawal of service and directed its members to resume their services to the University,” the resolution stated.

The congress was called to order at 12:30pm by the branch chairperson, who briefed members on the latest development regarding the underpayment of emoluments up to August 2026.

Following deliberations, members resolved to suspend the strike based on the university management’s commitment to settle the outstanding EAA component by the stated deadline.

The motion for adjournment was moved by Comrade Praise Adeosun and seconded by Comrade E. O. Igudia.
