UNICAL Alumni Launches Internet Facility For Students

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has received a significant boost with the commissioning of a multi-million naira Starlink Internet Facility at the Malabor hostel.

The project, commissioned by the institution’s alumni from the 1980-1985 set, aims to provide students with access to global digital libraries and enhance their research capabilities.

Representing the vice chancellor Prof. Florence Obi, feputy vice chancellor Prof. Peter Okafor expressed gratitude to the alumni for their generosity. “Our students will now have 24/7 high-speed internet access to knowledge, research, and opportunities without borders,” he said.

“This initiative will shape lives for generations and sets a shining example of what alumni can achieve when they give back.”

The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the 80-85 sets association, Mrs. Elizabeth Omang, represented by Dr. Arnold Udoka, noted that the world has changed rapidly since they lived in Malabor hostel.

“We hope this facility will empower you to dream big, research deeper, and compete globally,” she said.

In his remarks,  chief executive officer (CEO) Network Systems, NSI Technologies Ltd and consultant Engr.Ebi Deisah, who implemented Starlink Internet service on behalf the  alumni,  averred the facility would assist subscribers beyond the shores of Nigeria.
