UNICAL Seals Deals On Research, Innovation With Chinese Institutions

Vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar, has sealed deals on research and innovation with the Chinese institutions for the broadening of their horizon in the area of research, innovation and technology.

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efangha Offiong, disclosed this yesterday in Calabar, upon his return from China.

Offiong led a team  of management  staff including  the university registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha to the Asian country.

He said the university signed three Memoranda of Understanding with leading Chinese institutions.

He said that the agreements are designed to strengthen collaboration in academics, research, innovation, and industry partnerships.

He said that the MoUs are expected to create new opportunities for UNICAL students, researchers, and staff.

A statement from the Public Relations Department  PRO Unit sighted by LEADERSHIP stated that the partnership would assist both institutions to collaborate on various academic issues.

The MoU according to the statement, is aim at  expanding the university’s global academic presence and build stronger international linkages that support teaching, learning, and enterprise.

“During the visit, the UNICAL delegation held strategic meetings with officials of the partner institutions.

“Discussions focused on fostering cooperation in education, research, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship development across the three agreements”, the statement maintained.

The first MoU is a five-year agreement with Southwest University. It centred on academic, cultural, and educational cooperation.

Key areas include faculty and student exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, exchange of publications and materials, participation in conferences and seminars, and short-term academic programmes.

 

UNICAL also signed a five-year agreement with the Sanya Research Institute of Hainan University.

 

“This partnership targets scientific research, innovation, and academic development”, the statement reads.
