Union Bank of Nigeria’s employees have successfully concluded their annual wellness initiative, ‘FitFeb 2026’, with health walks and celebrations held simultaneously in Lagos and Enugu.
A statement from the bank confirmed that in Lagos, staff gathered at the bank’s Head Office in Marina, walking to its Surulere facility, affectionately known as ‘The Stable’. Concurrently, employees in Enugu undertook a coordinated walk along designated routes within the city. These events marked the culmination of a month-long programme dedicated to health and wellbeing.
“FitFeb 2026 saw participation from employees across all the bank’s branches and departments nationwide, making it the most geographically inclusive edition of the initiative to date,” the bank reported. Throughout February, staff engaged in daily noon stretch sessions, encouraging brief breaks from workstations to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The programme also featured virtual health webinars, accessible to employees across all locations, offering guidance on maintaining physical fitness and mental health. Aerobic classes were also organised for those seeking more intensive exercise.
Activities peaked on Friday, 27th February, with fitness parties held simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Enugu. These concurrent events aimed to foster team spirit and reinforce a shared organisational culture across the bank’s operations. The Saturday health walks were described by organisers as the physical pinnacle of the initiative, underscoring the bank’s commitment to employee welfare across its various locations.
FitFeb has become an annual fixture on the bank’s corporate calendar, focused on promoting healthy lifestyles among employees. The bank explained that its wellness initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
The bank emphasised that employee wellbeing plays a crucial role in service delivery, as healthy, motivated staff contribute to an improved customer experience across its network. Following the conclusion of FitFeb 2026, Union Bank reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising initiatives that support the physical and mental health of its workforce beyond the designated wellness month.
