The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has debunked reports that the university’s non-teaching staff unions are threatening Governor Ademola Adeleke over improved welfare.
A statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo yesterday by the registrar and secretary to the governing council, Mrs Atinuke Abosede Oguntade said the management got to know that the unions were misquoted and never meant to cause any embarrassment for the government.
Oguntade said in order to ascertain the veracity of the publication, the management convened a meeting of all leaders of non-teaching staff unions on Thursday and the unions were convinced that the staff never meant any embarrassment to Adeleke.
She said the university has peace-loving staff who appreciate the good works of the government towards the development of the university.
“The outcome of the meeting confirmed that the online platform that reported the release misrepresented the expression of the staff unions on the aspect of Mr Governor’s Convocation address relating to staff welfare in the university.
“Both members of management and the leaders of the staff unions agreed that the misrepresented statement is capable of rubbishing the modest achievements the University has recorded in recent years.”
The registrar catalogued many staff welfare packages which only UNIOSUN staff members have been enjoying over the years that includes, tuition rebate of 50 percent for children of staff, end of year cash gift to all categories of staff, lifeline emergency cash support for any staff member on health emergencies, only public university in Nigeria to give cash palliative to staff to cushion effect of fuel subsidy, among others.
