United Nigeria Airlines has suspended a member of its ground staff following allegations of unprofessional conduct toward a passenger with reduced mobility at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In a statement made available to journalists, the airline said the incident occurred on March 30 and involved Ms. Doris Akonanya, who was checking in for Flight UN0526 from Abuja to Yenagoa.
The airline apologised to Ms. Akonanya and her family, describing the incident as inconsistent with its core values and service standards.
United Nigeria Airlines confirmed that the staff member involved has been suspended, while a full investigation into the matter is currently underway.
It added that the airline has maintained direct contact with the passenger and her family, offering support and keeping them updated on developments.
“The safety, dignity, and well-being of all our passengers remain our highest priority. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct, discrimination, or abuse, and we are firmly committed to providing safe, respectful, and accessible travel for all, particularly passengers with reduced mobility who require additional care and support.
“We sincerely apologise to Ms. Akonanya and her family for the distress this incident has caused. This experience does not reflect our ethics, values, vision, or the standard of service we are committed to delivering to all travellers.
“Since the incident, our team has remained in direct contact with the passenger and her family, extended our apologies, and ensured that their concerns are addressed, support is provided, and they are kept fully informed of the steps we are taking,” the airline stated.
