United States Institute for Peace (USIP) is to support the institutionalization of Peacebuilding commission to tackle complex and multiple security challenge facing Nigeria.
The country manager of USIP Nigeria Ambassador Zango Abdu said the institute is worried over reality of terrible conflicts situation, threatening the existence and togetherness of Nigeria.
Speaking with stakeholders and facilitators for local peace at the American University of Nigeria, AUN, the envoy encouraged northern states to set up peace building agencies.
“We bring in stakeholders to come and learn from those states that have already established the institute over the last couple of years.
The vice chancellor, Modibbo Adama University ((MAU) Prof. Abdullahi Liman Tukur, said the Centre for Peace and Security Studies, is committed to exposing various approaches in the peace building processes for reconciliation in the region.
Tukur said concerted efforts for peace building towards addressing challenges of the region were needed.
The director of the university’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies, Prof Jude Mumodu, said states that institutionalised peace agencies are getting better results.
