The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced that its offices in Abuja and Lagos will be temporarily closed in observance of the upcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement posted Wednesday on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the mission said, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 in observance of Eid-El-Fitr holiday.”

It added, “Happy Eid-El-Fitr to all our friends and families in Nigeria and around the world who celebrate!”

The closure will affect routine consular services at both the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos, with normal operations expected to resume after the holiday period.

The announcement by the U.S. Mission followed a similar declaration by the federal government of Nigeria, which earlier this week approved public holidays to mark the end of Ramadan.

The minister of interior, speaking on behalf of the government, declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to enable Muslim faithful across the country to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr.
