US Restricts Foreign Students At Harvard Varsity

The United States government, led by Donald Trump, has imposed restrictions on Harvard University, preventing it from enrolling international students.

The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday via X.

Noem cited the university’s failure to address “violence, antisemitism, and coordination with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus” as reasons for this “harsh penalty”.

“This decertification also means that existing non-immigrant students on F- or J-visas must transfer to another university to maintain their non-immigrant status,” the statement read.

Harvard University has been embroiled in a dispute with the Trump administration over funding, stemming from the institution’s refusal to comply with the president’s demands.

Trump had requested that the university audit professors for plagiarism and report international students accused of any misconduct, regardless of severity.

Harvard also declined to dismantle its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programmes.

As part of the repercussions, the Trump administration froze $2.2 billion in federal grants to Harvard last month.

Earlier this month, the education department warned that Harvard would no longer receive research grants.
