Vehicle Administration Can Generate N3bn Per Annum – Bako

The Niger State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency says  it has the capacity to generate about N3 billion annually if its potential is utilised maximally.

The acting executive director of the agency, Dr. Mohammed Danladi Bako, disclosed his  when the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the weekend.

Dr. Bako however said due to inadequate utilisation of the potential, the agency now generates only about N500 million  annually.

He called on the state government to provide a conducive working environment, patrol vehicles, equipment, ICT, training of personnel and implementation of a separate salary scale for the staff to motivate them instead of the present Grade Level system.

He said a salary system as obtained in other paramilitary organizations would enable the agency realise its goals.

Bako also revealed that the agency presently has only 150 personnel and called for more funding by government to achieve the set objectives.

He listed some of the mandates of the agency to include; registration and testing of vehicles and persons, licensing of vehicles, ensuring road worthiness of vehicles and issuance of hackney permits to motorists.

He  appealed to journalists to assist by sensitising the people on the importance of obtaining vehicle documents and compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

The state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Abu Nmodu, had emphasised the need for stronger synergy and collaboration between the agency and the NUJ to guarantee the effective dissemination of information about the activities of the organization.

Comrade  Nmodu who commended the acting executive director for his commitment to duty however advised him to always make himself available to journalists to adequately publicise the activities of the organization.
