The Federal University Gashua (FUGA), in Yobe State has admitted 927 students during its matriculation ceremony held at the institution.
Speaking during the event, the vice-chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, urged the newly matriculated students to pursue their academic career with discipline, focus, and integrity.
According to her, “It is a testament to your hard work and the grace of God. By taking the matriculation oath today, you are committing to the values of academic integrity, discipline, respect, and the pursuit of excellence.”
Prof Waziri reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing a conducive and supportive learning environment and equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
She also cautioned students against engaging in social vices and reiterated the institution’s zero tolerance for misconduct and examination malpractice.
“Let me emphasise that FUGA does not tolerate examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, truancy, or any other behaviour that contradicts the values of this institution.”
Waziri also introduced the NELFUND Students Loan Scheme, a bold initiative by the federal government to enhance access to higher education for all Nigerian students, regardless of financial status.
She encouraged eligible students to take advantage of the programme by seeking guidance from the NELFUND desk officer at the Students’ Affairs Division.
“This loan scheme is a long-term investment in your future. I urge you to explore this opportunity and apply early,” she said.
