The victims of attack in Takalafia and Gwanja communities of Karu local government area of Nasarawa State which led to the death of 38 persons have been laid to rest in mass burial.
Recall that gunmen suspected to be herders had attacked the communities in an onslaught which was said to have started Thursday night to Friday morning.
A pastor in-charge of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Daniel Danbeki and others, were reportedly killed by the assailants.
Houses and property worth millions of naira were razed during the crisis, it was gathered.
The police command through its public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel who confirmed the development to LEADERSHIP yesterday, described the incident as unfortunate.
He said the police got a distress call from Gwanja at about 8:pm on the 11th that an 18-year-old whose name was given as Jibo Aliyu was matcheted following disagreement.
He said men of the command who were drafted to the location, conveyed the victim to the hospital but he died while undergoing treatment.
Explaining further, he noted that the command got the information of attack on communities over the demise of the young man later, moblised reinforcement to the scene where 10 bodies were recovered and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
Our correspondent learnt that the victims of the attack were given mass burial on Saturday.
The deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, who led the government delegation to the mass burial, condemned killings and destruction of property.
Akabe, who expressed shock over the killings, said the government will investigate the causes of the attacks, bring the perpetrators to book and they will be punished.
He assured that the state government will provide relief materials to the displaced victims even as he urged members of the affected communities to give credible information to the relevant authorities.
