The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to collect any money offered to them by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2027 general elections but remain committed to voting according to their conscience.
Makinde said Nigerians should not reject money offered to them by politicians during the electioneering period, stressing that such funds belonged to the people, who should nevertheless resist attempts to influence their electoral choices through financial inducements.
He made the call on Saturday during the flag-off of the APM presidential campaign at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Memorial Stadium, Bauchi.
“When they come with money during the election, do not bother to reject it. The money is yours; collect it and spend it. But guard your conscience and make the right decision when the time comes. I know that your hearts are with us and with me,” he said.
The APM presidential candidate called on Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s current situation, particularly insecurity, hunger and the government’s inability to address pressing national challenges, to support his party in the forthcoming elections.
“If you are unhappy with the situation in our country today, particularly the growing insecurity, hunger and the inability of the government to address the challenges confronting Nigerians, then there is only one party for us. That party is the party of respect for Nigeria,” he said.
Makinde urged Nigerians to identify with the APM political movement, describing its supporters as “Resetters”, while promising that the party would provide an alternative political direction capable of addressing the country’s numerous challenges.
He said the party was committed to respecting communities, strengthening the country’s security architecture and creating a socio-political environment that would enable more Nigerians to participate meaningfully in governance.
For his part, the running mate to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Lawal Musa Daura, has said the party’s agenda is to fight misrule and promote honest, sincere and inclusive governance if elected into power.
Daura said the party was committed to ensuring that anyone entrusted with political leadership remained accountable and dedicated to serving the interests of Nigerians.
Daura warned that the politics of lies, deceit and hypocrisy posed a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
He said the party was proposing a government that would prioritise the welfare of citizens and operate under a clearly defined collective development plan capable of taking the country to greater heights.
According to him, the APM agenda is not designed to benefit an individual or a particular group but to provide equal opportunities for all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, ethnic, cultural or social backgrounds.
“This is not about one individual or a particular group. It is about all of us.
“That is why our agenda is designed to ensure that every Nigerian, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, colour or background, has a place in government.
“Our happiness will not come from stealing public funds or enriching ourselves with resources meant for the people. Rather, it will come from seeing happiness on the faces of Nigerians,” he said.
He added that the satisfaction of political leaders should come from seeing citizens enjoy prosperity, achieve success and experience meaningful development.
The APM running mate also assured that the party would work towards addressing the security and economic challenges confronting the country.
The former director general of the State Security Service (SSS) called on Nigerians to support the party and vote for the APM in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the event, Governor Bala Mohammed said Makinde had developed a comprehensive agenda to address the major challenges confronting the country, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and vision for national development.
The governor also praised the presidential candidate’s commitment to inclusive governance, expressing confidence that his administration would accommodate Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides.
