South Africa’s Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has issued a warning to the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of their semi-final meeting at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The holders triumphed over Senegal, winning 4-1 on penalties in a thrilling quarter-final contest on Saturday night, securing a date with Nigeria. Andile Dlamini was the hero, making two crucial saves during the shootout.
Tuesday’s encounter against Nigeria will take place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. The Super Falcons previously thwarted Banyana Banyana’s hopes of securing a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Justine Madugu’s side convincingly defeated the Copper Queens of Zambia 5-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 WAFCON finals on Friday.
Statistically, Nigeria dominates most categories, boasting the best attack (nine goals) and the best defence (no goals conceded).
However, Ellis remains confident that her side can defeat the nine-time champions.
“We know what this match means. We know what it takes to beat Nigeria,” Ellis was quoted as saying by CAFonline.
