Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) received a major boost yesterday with the arrival of forward Folashade Ijamilusi, taking the number of players in the Super Falcons’ camp in Casablanca to 23.

Ijamilusi, who plays for Chinese club Liaoning Shenyang Shenbei Hefeng, arrived at the team’s Marriott Hotel shortly before 3 p.m. local time after completing her journey from China.

The former Nigeria youth international was one of the standout performers at the previous edition of the tournament, scoring twice, including the Super Falcons’ equaliser in their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final.

However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that midfielder Deborah Abiodun and forward Gift Monday were unable to join the squad as scheduled after their flight from the United States was cancelled because of a technical fault.

The duo reportedly arrived at the airport only to be informed that the flight had been cancelled, forcing the NFF to arrange and purchase new tickets to ensure their arrival in Morocco.

The reigning African champions have continued intensive training sessions at the La Noria Club in Casablanca as they fine-tune preparations for the continental showpiece.

The team will later move to Morocco’s administrative capital, Rabat, where they will contest their Group C fixtures against Malawi, Egypt and Zambia.

An official team arrival meeting involving the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Local Organising Committee has been scheduled for Saturday, 25 July, while the Super Falcons will begin their title defence against Malawi next Tuesday.
