Political momentum is gathering in Warri Federal Constituency as stakeholders under the banner of the Warri Federal Constituency Progressive Forum (WFCPF) have urged High Chief Promise Lawuru to contest the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made during a stakeholders’ gathering on Monday involving political leaders, chiefs, religious leaders, women and youths from Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas.
The forum said the constituency requires a new direction in leadership that can effectively address growing socio-economic challenges and drive meaningful development across the three Warri councils.
Leading figures of the forum included Chief Madam Onome Okumagba, Panama Gabriel Panama, Barrister Bawl Wesley Edema, Chief Markson Aghokigho Igiegie and the forum’s Secretary, Deacon Godpower Benakiegha.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the forum, Chief Markson Aghokigho Igiegie, members stressed that the time had come for vibrant and accessible leadership capable of delivering empowerment opportunities and economic growth for the people.
According to the forum, Warri Federal Constituency needs a representative who will champion job creation, economic empowerment and legislative initiatives aimed at tackling hunger and poverty across the three local government areas.
The stakeholders also passed a vote of confidence on the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, commending what they described as pragmatic and result-oriented leadership in the state.
They further acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while appreciating the contributions of past and present representatives of the Warri Federal Constituency.
Responding to the appeal, High Chief Promise Lawuru expressed appreciation to the forum and the people of the constituency for the confidence reposed in him.
He noted that the request reflected the trust and expectations of the people but said he would first undertake broad consultations before making a final decision.
“You informed me that there was an urgent meeting and requested that I come. Having listened to you today, I have clearly heard your appeal asking me to contest for the House of Representatives,” Lawuru said.
“I will respectfully ask that you give me some time to consult with my friends, political leaders and members of my family before I respond formally,” he added.
The call by the forum is expected to spark fresh political conversations across Warri Federal Constituency as political activities gradually begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
