Senate president during the Second Republic (1979-1983), Joseph Wayas, will be buried according to the family rites in his hometown in Obanliku local government area of Cross River State, his first son, Joseph Wayas Junior, has said.
The ex-senate president was born on May 21, 1941 and died in December 2021.
On behalf of the family, the younger Wayas said the burial ceremony will take place at the hometown of the deceased in Obanliku, Cross River State.

“We will give our father a befitting burial,” Junior stated during an exclusive interview with the LEADERSHIP in Abuja, yesterday.
He said despite the delay in announcement, the family seeks understanding from all well-wishers and appreciates the loved ones and Nigerians.
According to him, the plans are underway, pending confirmation from key stakeholders and the state government regarding the funeral details.

He said the family of the late former senate president has announced with deep sorrow the passing on of their beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who dedicated his life to promoting unity.
He further requested patience and understanding during this period of mourning.
“Further updates will be provided as soon as the necessary arrangements are finalised. Dr. Joseph Wayas is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
