The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has dispelled any rumour of internal wrangling in the organisation, insisting that the recent changes within the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) leadership are simply routine internal adjustments designed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

In a statement by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Director of NGOs and CSOs of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), the elders forum explained that it’s crucial to dispel any misconceptions about internal conflict within the NEF.

“We remain a united and cohesive body, bound by a common vision and unwavering commitment to the development and betterment of the Northern region,” the NEF insisted.”

“The appointment of a new spokesperson and the shift in my role are procedural changes, not indicative of any underlying conflict or alteration of the Forum’s core principles. The NEF remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the numerous challenges facing the Northern region, working tirelessly towards a brighter future for its people. I urge everyone to support the new spokesperson and to continue collaborating with the NEF in its ongoing efforts to promote development, peace, and prosperity in Northern Nigeria. The unity and strength of the NEF remain intact, and our dedication to our shared objectives remains unwavering.”

The statement explained further that the Northern Elders Forum has played a crucial role in providing a platform for Northern leaders, intellectuals, and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and formulate strategies for addressing the region’s multifaceted challenges since its inception.

“This involves diverse activities, from advocacy and policy recommendations to facilitating collaborations with relevant bodies and civil society organisations (CSOs). My new role as Director of NGOs and CSOs naturally falls within this broader mandate, focusing specifically on coordinating efforts related to the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and enhancing partnerships with various CSOs active in the region. This continues my previous involvement with the NEF, albeit with a redefined focus and expanded responsibilities. Therefore, the change is mainly administrative and does not signify a change in the NEF’s established strategies or philosophies.

The appointment of Professor Abubakar Jidda Jiddere as the new spokesperson is equally part of this routine procedural adjustment.”

“The NEF operates under a well-defined structure, delineating roles and responsibilities. The transition in this position is not unusual and should not be interpreted as a symptom of internal division or discord. Quite the contrary, the new spokesperson is a highly competent individual with a proven track record of effective communication and leadership. He possesses a deep understanding of the NEF’s objectives and a strong commitment to its mission. His appointment followed a rigorous internal selection process, emphasising his capabilities and suitability for this crucial role.”

“It is imperative that all stakeholders, including the media and the general public, extend their full support to him, enabling him to discharge his duties effectively and represent the NEF’s position accurately and effectively. Constructive collaboration is vital to any organisation’s success, including providing the necessary support for those entrusted with leadership positions.”

“It is crucial to dispel any misconceptions about internal conflict within the NEF. We remain a united and cohesive body, bound by a common vision and unwavering commitment to the development and betterment of the Northern region. The NEF’s strength lies in its ability to navigate diverse opinions and perspectives while maintaining a shared focus on achieving its goals. Internal discussions and debates are a natural part of any organisation’s decision-making process, and these internal deliberations should not be mistaken for signs of weakness or disunity. The NEF’s history demonstrates its capacity for internal cohesion, ensuring that disagreements do not detract from the collective effort towards the common goal,” NEF added.
