The management of De Rainbow Event Marquee, Abuja, has denied reports that it received threats in connection with hosting the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The centre, which hosted the convention, said claims that it was pressured over the event were false and misleading.
The controversy followed allegations by ADC that the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had threatened to revoke the facility’s licence for allowing the opposition party to hold its convention there.
The party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had raised the alarm earlier in the week, alleging that the venue owner was being intimidated.
But at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the director of the Rainbow Event Marquee, Martina K. Yusuf, dismissed the allegation.
She said the centre had not received any threat from the FCT minister or from any government institution.
“We did not receive any threat over the ADC convention from the minister of the FCT or from any other person or government agency,” Yusuf stated.
She described the reports as unauthorised and lacking verification.
According to her, the claims were circulated without management’s consent and did not reflect the reality of the situation.
Yusuf urged the public and media organisations to disregard the allegation and rely only on verified information.
She noted that the clarification was necessary after several clients with existing bookings contacted the centre, fearing that its operations might be disrupted. The director assured customers that the facility remains open and that all confirmed bookings remain valid.
She added that maintaining a secure and professional environment for clients remains the organisation’s top priority.
Yusuf also expressed gratitude for the continued trust and confidence reposed in the centre by its customers and stakeholders.
