As part of measures to expand enrolment especially at the rural areas, the Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, has announced that his administration will embark on the construction of at least one Model Primary School in each of the 178 political wards across the state.

The Buni administration has started and completed 7 mega and 7 model schools in the urban towns of Potiskum, Damaturu, Bun-Yadi, Geidam, Gashu’a and Nguru geared towards decongested classrooms across the benefiting areas.

The governor has while presenting the 2026 finance and appropriation bills before the Yobe State House of Assembly in Damaturu said the construction of the model schools in the political wards were part of his administration commitments to make education more accessible to the common man.

Buni disclosed that the new schools would feature improved classroom structures, enhanced learning materials, and qualified teachers posted through a strengthened education management system.

He further said to guarantee quality teaching, the Inspectorate Unit of the Ministry of Education, the Teaching Service Board, and the Science and Technical Schools Board would be reinvigorated to enforce standards and monitor performance across the system.

He said, “Government will embark on the provision of at least one Model primary school in each of the 178 electoral wards in the State as is done in the Primary Health Sector to improve basic education in the State.

“The inspectorate unit in the Ministry of Education, Teaching Service Board, and the Science and Technical Schools Board will be reinvigorated to ensure quality teaching in our schools.”

As part of the comprehensive reforms, the governor also announced that the government will construct an Integrated Model School in Damaturu, which will operate a dual curriculum combining science education with Islamic studies.

Buni disclosed that students admitted from across the state will have the opportunity to pursue science subjects while also memorizing the Holy Qur’an.

He emphasized that the initiative aims to produce graduates who are both academically sound and morally grounded, capable of contributing to the state’s development in multiple fields.

In a further bid to improve the learning environment, Governor Buni disclosed that solar-powered electricity systems would be installed in all senior secondary schools.

According to the governor, “The installations will cover laboratories, classrooms, dormitories, libraries, dining halls, and administrative blocks. Stable electricity is essential for practical learning, especially in science laboratories, and contributes to student safety and comfort.”

Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening education as the foundation of long-term development, stressing that the 2026 budget prioritizes investments that will secure a brighter future for Yobe’s youth.
