All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed the hope that it will convincingly win the by-election into the Ahoada-East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2 of the Rivers State House of Assembly scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The two seats became vacant in 2023 following the resignation of Hon. Edison Ehie and the death of Hon. Loolo Maol.
Three major political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not be participating in the by-election.
However, seven political parties, including the Action Alliance (AA), APC, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Boot Party (BP) the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the Young Peoples Party (YPP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) are fielding candidates for the election in the two constituencies
While AA, APC, NNPP, YPP and ZLP are participating in the by-election in the two constituencies, APM and BP will be fielding candidates in Ahoada-East Constituency 2 only.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, APC youth leader in Rivers South-East senatorial district, Hon. Innocent Ajaelu, said the outcome of the by-election will be a signal to other political parties that there is no space for them in the state, especially in the South-East senatorial district.
Ajaelu said: “The by-election will be a test-run for APC in Rivers South-East senatorial district. We will use it to send a signal to all other mushroom political parties that there is no space for them in Rivers South-East senatorial district.
“Ab-initio, Rivers South-East senatorial district had been the home of APC in Rivers State right from when APC was birthed in the state in 2013. This time around, we are going to tell them that we are still the owners of APC in Rivers State.
“Preparation is on top gear, the candidate we chose is a top notch. She has been proven by all standards that when entrusted with power, she will deliver on the mandate of APC.
“So, APC is going to win because every necessary arrangements have been made to mobilize people to vote in that by-election come February 21. APC is going to win and win convincingly.”
