Peter Niemeyer, the sporting director of Werder Bremen, has confirmed that Victor Boniface will not be returning to play this season due to a knee injury sustained during training last December.
The Nigerian international underwent surgery earlier this year and is currently in the midst of his rehabilitation process. Niemeyer expressed concern over the unpredictability of Boniface’s recovery timeline.
“He’s currently completing his rehabilitation in Leverkusen, and we are pleased with every bit of progress. However, it remains impossible to predict how quickly he’ll be fully fit again,” Niemeyer told DeichStube. “Given the nature of the rehabilitation, we do not expect Victor to play for Werder again this season.”
Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, contributing two assists in 11 league appearances for the Green and Whites.
