Werder Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz has stated that the club is doing everything possible to maximise Victor Boniface’s potential.
He made this remark in response to the player’s recent performances and off-field conduct.
Bremen secured a 1-0 home victory against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga over the weekend, with Boniface coming on in the 80th minute.
He squandered a clear chance to extend Bremen’s lead to 2-0 during stoppage time, which has sparked widespread discussion.
Fritz emphasised that the focus should not solely be on the missed opportunity, but rather on how the player approaches his chances.
“He needs to recognise that Werder is an opportunity for him – as there will also be life after Bremen and Leverkusen,” Fritz said, as quoted by Deichstube.
He assured that the Nigerian international would receive all the necessary support from the club to reach his best form.
“It is our objective to get him into the best possible condition – because then he will be incredibly valuable to us,” Fritz added.
Regarding Boniface’s social media activities, Fritz commented, “I’d say we’ve all stood in front of abstract art in a gallery and wondered what the artist was trying to convey.
“We at Werder ask ourselves the same question about him,” Fritz said with a smile.
He noted that there was nothing wrong with Boniface’s social media posts as long as they align with Werder Bremen’s values.
On Boniface’s behaviour within the team, he remarked, “When you see him in the locker room, he always has a smile on his face.”
Boniface joined Bremen on the last day of the 2025 summer transfer window after a move to AC Milan fell through.
