We’re Dying Of Hunger, Naridom Community Cries Out After Bandits Raze Food Shops

Three days after bandits attacked Naridom community in Chawai Chiefdom of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, survivors are battling hunger after the attackers razed all food shops in the village.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP, the Village Head of Naridom, Garba Bawa, said the destruction of the community’s food stores has left many families without access to food, worsening the hardship caused by the attack.

“We’re dying of hunger. The bandits burnt all the food shops in our community. Our people have nothing to eat. We are appealing to the government, humanitarian organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid with food and other relief materials,” Bawa said.

He said many residents had abandoned the community in search of safety, while those who remained were living in fear and struggling to survive without food and other basic necessities.

“We have lost so much. Many of our people have fled because they are afraid. Those still here are hungry and need urgent help.”

Bawa said several victims injured during the attack are receiving treatment under difficult conditions and require urgent government intervention to be transferred to better-equipped hospitals because of the severity of their injuries.

He added that many families have also been rendered homeless after the bandits razed their houses during the attack, leaving them without shelter or means of livelihood.

The traditional ruler appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the federal government and humanitarian organisations to urgently provide relief materials, including food, temporary shelter and medical support for the injured, while also assisting displaced families to rebuild their lives.

Also speaking, the Youth Leader of Naridom, Ishaya Dawa, said the community urgently needs government intervention to rebuild critical infrastructure and improve access to basic services.

He appealed to the Kaduna State Government to construct a motorable access road to the community, saying the poor road network has continued to hamper security response, economic activities and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Dawa also called for the establishment of a functional Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), lamenting that residents are forced to travel long distances to access medical care, even during emergencies.

“Our roads are in a terrible condition and we don’t have a Primary Healthcare Centre. These are basic amenities our people have been denied for years. We are appealing to the government to construct our roads, provide a functional PHC and strengthen security in our community,” he said.

He added that with many residents displaced, others homeless and many struggling to access food following the attack, urgent government intervention is needed to restore normalcy and give the community hope.

The youth leader also called for increased security deployment to Naridom and other vulnerable communities in Chawai Chiefdom to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
