The vice chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, Professor John Emaimo, has declared that they feel good when healthcare providers the school trains go to other countries to practice.

He stated this during a press conference prior to the university’s Founder’s Day Celebration held at the school.

The renowned scholar said when their products go abroad to practice, they see it as an income earner and a development that improves the economy.

“It is our pride to export; it is our pride to lead healthcare in the US and others. We are not feeling bad about it,” he stated.

“We have abundant reasons why we decided to commence the celebration of the Founder’s Day of FUAHSE, but top among them is the celebration of our transformation in 70 years of the foundation of a critical healthcare training institution that has produced the finest health experts, not only for Nigeria but Ghana, the republic of Cameroon and some other African countries, who still keep us in their memories with nostalgia.

“Gentlemen of the press, permit me to introduce you to the ultimate founder of FUAHSE, who is also the visitor to the university, President Bola Tinubu, who in his infinite consideration on March 14, 2024 upgraded and converted this great institution from a Diploma-awarding Dental College, to a degree-awarding University of Allied Health Sciences. With the presidential directive and approval for conversion of the former Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu to the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, a lot of rapid progress has taken place in the university which are chief reasons why we want to commence marking the founder’s day.

“Our university was established with a clear mission to provide high-quality education, research and service in the field of allied health sciences, with a focus on improving healthcare outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and communities.

“As we celebrate our beginning, we reflect on the progress we have made. The university has assembled a talented team of faculty and staff, who are passionate about teaching, research and service. We welcome our inaugural class of FUAHSE students, who are eager to learn, grow and make a difference in the world. We’ve established partnerships with leading healthcare organisations and research institutions, which will enable us to advance our mission and achieve our goals.

“As we look to the future, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. We are committed to building a university that is renowned for its academic excellence, innovative research and community engagement. We are dedicated to producing graduates who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to succeed in their chosen careers and make a positive impact in society.

“The university is kicking off with 16 academic programmes that were diligently verified and approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The specialist courses are: Nursing Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Social Work, Public Health, Dental Technology, Dental Therapy, Medical Rehabilitation Therapy (Physiotherapy), Prosthetics and Orthotics, Health Information Management and Healthcare Management,” he said
