Rising artiste, Ogunbanjo Oladele Olumide, popularly known as Deliosha Ijebu Rapper, recently revealed what musical mogul and broadcaster, Kenny Keke Ogungbe said to him on the Naija Star Search show.
The artiste who started his music career appearing on several music talent shows as the Goldberg Talent Hunt and Naija Star Search Show (2019) said while he never got past the third round of the contest, the music mogul had encouraged him to hone his craft and niche as a local language (Ijebu) rapper, as means to propelling his music to the global stage.
An Ijebu-born Lagosian, Deliosha Rapper has rapper Olamide as his inspiration to music and rap about a decade ago. His lyrics, however, are informed by his Ijebu origin, and the city of Lagos resulting in his mixture of the indigenous language and Pidgin English.
Presently, five of the artiste’s song is on major music streaming platforms including the self-titled piece Ijebu Rapper.
On his passion, struggles and hope for an impending breakthrough in the music scene, he said, “Aside rapping, I can sing. I stick to this Ijebu dialect because I believe it promotes and preserves our local languages. Music is universal, and rap is a culture, and an avenue for me to express myself. With additional publicity, the right relationships and honing of my skills, I will make it.”
To upcoming artistes, the artiste urged, “Don’t let anybody derail you with negative thoughts and mindsets. Stick to your goal and strive to make a success out of it.”
