In a bid to address the rising cost of transportation across the country, Wheela has unveiled a new digital transport app platform to ease transportation costs for Nigerians.

Speaking at the unveiling yesterday in Abuja, the general manager of Wheela, Osadinuzu Preucus, said the initiative is about rethinking how movement works in Nigeria.

“For decades in Nigeria, transportation has been powered by resilience—drivers going up and down daily, commuters standing in long queues, and unions trying to maintain order in the system,” he said.

“However, alongside all of this, we have faced many challenges, including lack of transparency, rising costs, safety concerns, and systems that leave both drivers and users frustrated.”

Osadinuzu explained that Wheela was created from a simple but powerful question: What if transport technology in Nigeria truly worked for everyone?

“Unlike other traditional ride platforms that come in to disrupt, Wheela was built differently. From day one, we made a deliberate choice to collaborate, not compete. We chose partnership over replacement, structure over chaos, and respect over disruption. That is why Wheela works closely with transport unions and stakeholders,” he said.

He added that real and sustainable change cannot happen without the people who already understand the system.

“Technology should strengthen existing structures, not try to erase them. At its core, Wheela is about fairness. Drivers keep 100 per cent of their revenue, while only a subscription fee—paid daily, weekly, or monthly—is charged,” he explained.

According to him, this model brings transparency to the system for both drivers and users.

“We believe that when drivers have predictable incomes, passengers will feel safer. And when the system is transparent, trust grows between drivers and users. When trust grows, progress becomes possible for everyone.”

He clarified that Wheela does not claim to have all the answers but has a clear vision to build a transport platform that understands Nigeria, respects its realities, and grows with its people.

“This journey will require collaboration, feedback, patience, and trust. Real change happens through honest conversations, shared responsibility, and collective effort,” he added.

Similarly, the brand ambassador for Wheela, Victor Johnny James, said the goal is to fix transportation costs for Nigerians, especially the country’s teeming population.

“Transportation affects everything. People must move from point A to point B. If fuel prices increase, transport fares rise, and that impacts market prices. We are launching today in Abuja and will also launch in Lagos on Wednesday, the 18th. This is a nationwide mission, starting from the FCT,” he said.

James described the platform as a landmark solution that bridges the gap between drivers and customers and addresses long-standing issues in city centres.

“With our subscription model, drivers have 100 per cent control of their earnings. This is my first with Wheela. When drivers are satisfied, it positively affects customers as well,” he stated.

He noted that the company conducted surveys, field research, and team assessments before launching to fully understand the challenges in the transportation sector.

“We didn’t just launch randomly. We studied the problems and are committed to fixing transportation issues across the country,” he concluded.
