The World Health Organisation (WHO) has trained 45 healthcare workers on proactive measures to curtain the outbreak of infectious diseases in Adamawa State.

The Health Emergency Operation Team lead, Dr Samuel Yenyi, said the North East training hopes to achieve internal, external assessments and put a plan in place to respond and secure the state from public health emergencies that might affect the population of the state.

“The meeting is aimed to prepare the state to have some form of security for any form of infectious diseases that might come.

“When the state is prepared, they know what to do exactly during outbreaks,” he said.

In his remarks, the director of research and planning of the Ministry of Health, Dr Stephen John, who spoke for the state team lead, stressed that the assessment training is to identify gaps and health challenges at community and health facility levels to address them.

The head of International Health Regulation (IHR)/Global Health Security (GHS) division of NCDC, Dr Lois Olajide, stressed the need to contact the assessment on health security, especially public health emergency issues.

Olajide told the participants that the state needs to prepare ahead of time, having known the social and economic impacts associated with outbreaks.
