Inter Miami star Lionel Messi has cited fatigue as the reason for his absence from the MLS All-Stars game.
Messi missed last Wednesday’s match in Austin, Texas, where the MLS squad secured a 3-1 victory against Mexico’s Liga MX All-Stars. Consequently, the Argentine star was suspended for a game by the MLS governing body.
Messi has acknowledged struggling with his fitness upon returning from suspension and has expressed criticism towards Major League Soccer for “not allowing him to compete.”
“I was feeling a bit sluggish at the start,” Messi commented following his team’s victory, in which he provided two assists. “I was playing regularly, but the other day they didn’t let me play. I felt it today, particularly in the first half.”
He added, “Not participating the other day, even though it may seem positive at first glance, is worse for me because I need competition. Physically, I feel better when I’m playing matches and finding my rhythm.”
