The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained why he stopped employing female secretaries after relocating to the church’s campground.
The renowned cleric said the decision was motivated by a desire to avoid situations that could lead to temptation or compromise.
Speaking to his congregation, Pastor Adeboye explained that the choice was rooted in personal discipline and the need to set firm boundaries, especially since his pastoral duties often require him to work late into the night.
“From the moment I got to this campground, from the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I ceased to have a female secretary,” he said, adding that he understands his own vulnerabilities.
“I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone at night with the opposite sex.”
Despite this, Adeboye spoke warmly about his former secretary at Ebute-Metta, describing her as a committed believer and noting that her conduct remained exemplary.
“Oh, but if we are to get a secretary like the last one I had, she was a wonderful child of God,” he said.
“She is still a very wonderful child of God, a true child of the living God.”
He further explained that his demanding schedule at the campground often kept him in the office until the early hours of the morning.
He recalled an instance in which a secretary approached him at 2 a.m. to offer assistance.
“And when I got here, I would still be in the office at 3 a.m. After a long day’s work, and we have seen the last visitor, then my secretary comes in at 2 a.m., ‘We are through now, Sir. Is there any way I can help you? A cup of tea to relax?”
“At 2 a.m.?” he questioned, adding that the situation prompted him to relieve her of her duties.
Pastor Adeboye’s comments underscore his long-standing emphasis on personal accountability, precaution, and avoiding scenarios that could lead to temptation.
