Nigerian Stand-up comedian and filmmaker, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY, has said some hurtful reactions to his jokes get to him because he is human, hence he is now cautious of cracking certain jokes.

LEADERSHIP reports that AY had recently issued a public apology to music superstar Davido on Instagram in October over a pregnancy joke about the singer. He expressed genuine regret, emphasising that his words were never meant to cause harm.

While speaking in a recent interview with media personality, Toke Makinwa, he blamed bloggers’ sensationalism for taking his jokes out of context.

“I’m human. When that joke came out, the timing wasn’t right because sensationalism now became a part of it. There was a running issue between David and Amaju Pinnick going on online that same day. So this joke that was said on the show earlier before all of that drama came up. Trust the bloggers, they don’t care, they’ll just grab it, pick the one that will form the trend, put that caption and you know Nigerians, they don’t like to investigate or find out anything. From the headline, they wish death on my newborn child. As a human, that will get to me.“

“It’s not that serious. This is only a joke. Simple joke. I’m even so scared to say it again, so that I don’t get in trouble again.”

He, however, said that he is now cautious about the jokes he will crack during his forthcoming UK tour.

“But all the same, this is the life I chose. This is business for me. I’ll go ahead and do my thing,” AY added.
