The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shot itself in the foot by denying the South East its 2023 presidential ticket, an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain has said.

South East national vice chairman of the APGA, Augustine Ehiemere, stated this while speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Umuahia, Abia State capital.

Ehiemere said: “That is exactly what the PDP should have done in 2023 when it was fully intact and stood a better chance of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).”‎

He said while he felt it was high time the zone produced the president of the country since the return of democracy, the offer may be coming late.

‎He also said a southern candidate at this time could make the contest very easy for the APC to win the election in view of the present state of the PDP.

The chieftain, who wondered how the party could turn the table over the APC, noted that he was watching to see how the plan would play out.

‎Wishing the likely candidate good luck, the former chairman of APGA in the state added, “This is politics. Sometimes it is unpredictable and anything can happen.”

‎Meanwhile, the chairman of the PDP in the state, Abraham Amah, has in a telephone interview said it was yet to take a resolution on the matter.

‎Amah, who is attending the PDP’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, added, “We’ve set up a zoning committee to look into it”.
