Because Anambra, situated in the Southeastern part of Nigeria and nicknamed the ‘light of the nation’, has several tourist attractions that you can visit. For example, the Ogbunike Cave is a short ride outside Akwa. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed cave is worth a visit. It offers a network of tunnels and a cascading waterfall for your relaxation.

Because you can visit Agulu Lake to see the sacred crocodiles, this calm lake is home to several protected crocodiles and water turtles. It is a captivating sight. You can visit at noon, as the crocodiles and turtles are said to be on the lake’s banks by then, enjoying the sun.

Because you can tour the iconic Blacksmiths of Awka, known as ‘Uzu Awka’. The capital is historically acclaimed as a legendary ‘smith city’. Use a local guide and go on an educational adventure to see artefacts of ancient artistry and modern metalwork by respected blacksmiths. This tradition dates back to the 9th Century.

Because you can take a tour of vibrant Eke Awka Market, flow with the boisterous activities and local culture. It is also recognised as the largest market in Awka, the state’s capital. It offers fresh produce, local souvenirs, household items, and native attire for sale. It’s a place to interact with the natives and learn more about the area’s traditions while you make purchases, as markets are known to uphold traditional ways.

Because you can relax at Solution Fun City, a modern recreation park, you will find it near the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. Enjoy the gaming zones, watch some memorable movies at the viewing centre, and have a picnic with family and friends, all while enjoying the alfresco ambience.

Because for modern shoppers located on Zik Avenue, you can explore the Ikenga Mall. And when hungry, take a break and enjoy food at some of the restaurants available. This modern retail centre provides contemporary brand outlets and supermarkets for you to shop.

Because if festivals are what you enjoy, Anambra State is the place to be for the New Yam Festival. You can experience this annual event if you visit in late summer. It’s a cultural tradition in the area where natives participate in local ‘Iwa Ji’ (New Yam) celebrations. It celebrates the end of the rainy season and harvest of yams and is also regarded as a time of thanksgiving to God and the ancestors. During this time, you can also watch masquerade dances.
