Why Visit Athens Greece

Because Athens, the capital of Greece, is one of the oldest cities in the world. Its history runs across 3,400 years. Human presence is said to have begun around the 11th and 7th millennia BC. It is recognised as the birthplace of Western civilisation and the largest city in Greece.

Because once you set foot on the island, its Mediterranean culture will captivate you. Start your tour by visiting the much-talked-about Acropolis. Yanni fans will love this! It is a rugged-looking fortress overlooking the city. It’s home to the 2,500-year-old Parthenon temple, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike. The latter is a small, legendary building constructed between 426 and 421 BCE. You can also explore the Acropolis Museum and enjoy the modern structure.

Because you will find the Ancient Agora in the northwest of the Acropolis, a gem of history. It was, in the olden days, more than just a marketplace; it was a vibrant hub for business, politics, and legal matters in Athens. Agora means ‘an assembly of the people’.

Take some time to also explore the Museum of the Ancient Agora in the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos. It was presented by the King of Pergamon, Attalos II, to the city in the 2nd century BC.

Because sports fans can take a tour of the Panathenaic Stadium. Built of marble, the massive structure hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Also interesting is the food walking tour.

Foodies…get ready! It’s a guided half-day food tasting tour where you can visit cafes and food markets and indulge in the local delicacies.
